Gift from a friend of a friend...no I don't know the name.
Note: Karasu is a next-gen Ranma character, but not from the same game as Ryoko.
I've lost the original file, so instead, I have a digital photo of a print out.
Rendition of Karasu.
Basically the result of a magical accident that resulted in creating a raven-winged clone of another person (originally Kodachi Kuno from Ranma 1/2 universe) and then sealed away for 20 years.
The basic situation was this:
Kodachi Kuno, after Ranma and Akane got married or at least officially accepted the engagement, went on a sort of walkabout to "find herself" in the process collecting various magical artifacts along the way. She ended up at jusenkyo without really knowing what it was or was about.
An accident caused her to fall into the spring of drowned twins. Kodachi being Kodachi, she immediately accused herself of being a demonic doppleganger and started a fight which resulted in one of the two, presumably the copy, fell into the spring of drowned raven.
Given the chance to recoup while the new raven-girl climbed out of the pool, Kodachi used something called a "djinn egg" designed to capture magical creatures and hold them. It worked on the raven-winged version of Kodachi.
The egg was stolen from the normal Kodachi not long after, and it wasn't less than a year before Kodachi heard a full explanation of Jusenkyo. She'd been funding a hunt for the stolen egg since then, feeling a sense of...responsibility to the other her.
One would think this mistake would make Kodachi start looking before she leaped, but it was another mistake beyond that that finally drove that point home, a much bigger mistake.
Kodachi found a spellbook copied from one originally penned by the goddess Hecate and copied by one of her ancestors. Finding that she was also descended from Hecate, Kodachi started experimenting with the spells in the book as a sort of hobby (as if she hadn't gotten into enough trouble from disrespecting magic) and ended up casting a spell in the bowels of the Kuno mansion that opened a gateway to an underworld of some sort.
Kodachi was barely strong enough to close it to a crack, and she has since then been unable to leave the Kuno mansion for long at a time. Since this incident happened so early in her career as a witch, the responsibility has stunted the growth of her natural power and she knows that she will never be able to close the gate and that the spell is locked by her bloodline.
The best she has managed to do is breed magical variations of her pet alligators in the depths of the Kuno estate that are meant to hunt and destroy the ghosts, zombies and demons that shamble out of the gate the occasional times that it opens wide. Kodachi also has a few ninja-like servants and apprentices, mostly girls from her old gymnasts team.
When the egg is broken in an antique store, the raven-winged Kodachi gets free and immediately sets out to find the "demon" that replaced her. She attacked Kodachi and was easily defeated given the extra twenty+ years Kodachi had over the still teenaged self-named "Karasu" (raven).
In Karasu, Kodachi sees a chance for redemption and restoring the world. However, she doesn't trust that anybody would accept the truth coming for her, so, she's, perhaps playing games she really shouldn't (she has learned to trust even now, she just blames her own past behavior now).
She's shown Ranma the gate and explained that when she dies, the gate opens, shading it to look like she's using it to blackmail people from confronting her. She's also very carefully stated that only someone from Hecate's bloodline, someone female, could cast the spell that would close the gate. The result was that Ranma decided to help Karasu and secretly try to push her to learn magic so that she could shut off the gate.
As for the look, upon deciding that she couldn't face Kodachi, she's taken steps to fight back against Kodachi in other ways, such as defacing her image.
Which is why she's had her hair cut and dyed white as well as changing her clothing style.
Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
