This is one of Goth's five commonly assumed forms, that of a vampire. She also has demon, werewolf, mummy and ghost forms.

They're all more human than not because they're more or less costumes for her.

The witch costume, ironically, is more in tune with what she is: a volunteer for a military experiment combining nano-tech and magic.

Through various means unimportant to the story, she ended up free of any immediate obligation and running a goth/costume shop.

For special customers she is even willing to share her changes temporarily.

She has rules though:

changes are temporary

changes are willing

only harm in self-defense

break one of her rules at your own risk...shape changing and temporary transformations aren't all she can do
