Usually, this comes as a pleasant surprise and I make a note to use that person again.
However, I'm now in a position where an artist is going into detail way beyond the samples I originally based what I was getting on. This time, the artist in question has decided that the work being put into the picture is more than the artist can afford and is asking for me to pay almost as much again what I originally paid in order to finish the art.
I don't know if I'm being silly or not here, but this feels sort of like being kept on a leash. One of the most uncomfortable experiences in art purchasing before now I had was a case where an artist started work before I considered us having agreed upon a price. I suddenly felt obligated to pay.
I'm feeling the same way here, I'm feeling obligated to pay for something beyond what I originally thought I was going to buy.
Am I being selfish? Is expecting to pay the original agreed on price too much to be expected?

but hey, maybe the pic will be awesomelichious and worth the price? if he really have spent that much material on so that he needs more money to get a profit it better be a damn awesome pic!
so my advice would be: demand to see how far he has gotten. if you REALLY like what you see you can consider paying him some more but be sure you dont pay him to much. haggle abit.
